The XS Fomulas have a more musty-minty smell than the Geranium formula due to the presence of mint, and the Catnip which some say smells like fresh-cut wet hay. Some people prefer the more "tropical" smell of the Geranium formula (especially children) that is imparted by the geranium, while others appreciate the more mature understated smell of this formula. The high mint content makes it feel cool to the skin when applied. A hi-tech blend of ingredients and packaging that is expensive to produce, it is suitable for rugged or prolonged performance Outdoor activities. It comes in an equally rugged 120 ml aluminum bullet bottle with a mister top that produces approx 900 fine mist sprays for approx 30 full body applications and works when upside down to facilitate spraying legs and feet. Has a more "perfumy" smell than the Extra Strength formula and is more suitable for Outdoor activities that will not take place for a prolonged period of time (E.G. more than 1.5 hrs or so before reapplication is required) or are "performance" orientated. This formula's carrier oil phase is based on a rich blend of pure carrier oils as noed on the product label. The fomula is safe for use on children, but should not be placed on their hands or face as it is very unpleasant to get it in your eyes or mouth. It is best to patch test it on skin prior to use, and purchase in a store so you can smell it from a sample bottle prior to purchase.
Pet Spray is sold in 600 ml bottles with spray cap and are based on the Swiss formula with Geranium, Vanillin, and cinnamic aldehyde which also impart the distinctive and pleasant scent, and bioprocessed soybean oil.
The Canadian catnip listed here typically yields in the range of 80-90% nepetelactone. It is stored in glass or lined aluminum containers within a constant temperature range of 3-8 degrees C. and bottle air cavities are purged with an inert gas to prevent oxidization from occurring. The Catnip Oil is food grade and previous GC analysis has not found any pesticide residues as it is not grown using pesticides. It is not certified organic. It is non GMO. A small amount of BHT is added as preservative at the source agricultural facility. It is sourced from the same facility that supplies the Iowa State University with their Catnip and is what was used in their testing and subsequent patent application.
Catnip, although it grows widely, is hard to cultivate and extract, thus the high price of the essential oil.
